Classics in Internet Mentalism.
From The Music Blog:

josh,
fuck you. thanks for the pathetic "i have no idea what i'm talking about write-up". you're right, we are just like great lakes myth society, except i'm going to fuck you in your mouth. you are impossible. also, my space is very very logical. you are a child in a puppet's body. correction (yes, this is for dramatic effect), you are a child.
fuck off (forever and ever),
jansen p. swy
the descent of the holy ghost church

From email (and someone else):

hello i just wanted to respond to "dose ann arbor need
any more garage bands,we have the avtars.well no we
dont because they all suck!the avatars are
shit.chris'box'taylor is the biggest asshole jerk i
have ever met.i my self an a guitarist and play heavy
metal and would notplay the clubs, because i rather get
signed
i woul hate to be 30 somthing and be in a local band
think in cool ha.as for you mr.stechmann you looke
like a compleat jerk and whom i would say have little
to go.
sincerly christin j.smith

My favorite part of this missive, this (if I may be Donovan) Epistle from Dippy? "Compleat." It feels like I'm being flamed by Shakespeare.

After a terse 'Good luck with that, Ace,' and vague notions that A&R men love people who don't play out, I get back:

ya send demo's i dont have a band im solo.the local
clubs suck and i rather sit at home and watch paint
dry .as 4 my spelling i type to fast but u i hope u
and the rest of the ann arbor local band get kicked in
the ass
i hope you all what s comung to you a kick in the
balls i spit on you and your crew fuck you and that
child molester box

How awesome is this? He thinks I have a CREW!

Wow. Jansen seemed like a dick, judging from his onstage persona the other night. Guess my instincts were right! What is his email in response to?

It's not up on the web, because we're retarded, but here's the unedited version of what I wrote:

The way I heard it, it started something like this: A confluence of poetry assignment and a desire to open for Magnolia Electric causes an assembly of Chris Bathgate, Michael Beauchamp, Louis Dickinson, Carol Gray, Matt Jones and Jansen Swy. Gray says they’ve been described as, “Driving down a deserted country road.”
They got their gig, and a lot of people saw them. They have a MySpace page, but the songs on there aren’t fresh. Gray says they need money to record a real album, but she drops off a copy of a live set recording.
They’ve got more than a little bit in common with the Great Lakes Myth Society, a combination of folk and rock. But where GLMS leans on orchestral pop, DHGC veers into the same territory as large-ensemble pop bands from Montreal— The Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene— with the horn and fiddle used to add power instead of prettiness.
On January 4th, the headline the Pig for the first time (with the always rated Kelly Jean Caldwell opening), and on the 27th they play with Great Lakes Myth Society and Canada at the Halfass.

I also got a note (second hand) from the other members of his band apologizing and blaming severe alcohol interactions for his behavior.
But yeah, classic mentalism.

I got a similar note from the Ghosts' bandmates apologizing they couldn't open the High Strung show (which was packed anyway, supposedly).

This sweetspot was a favor to them as a new band.. oh well, maybe they will be next "also rated" (classic!) next drunk, cute thing?

Heh. I even thought they were a pretty decent college band, a bit sloppy but whatever. I kinda hope that they haven't torpedoed themselves too much with this...

I like much of DHGC's material, though it bums me out a bit it seems not to be the other way around as I thought GLMS may have finally found some local comrades. I can enjoy the music just fine even if Jansen comes across as a prick, but I hope he and his bandmates figure out that one person's tongue trips up everyone in the band before they burn all their bridges.

Dude, if I didn't listen to any music made by assholes, I'd have, like, five albums. I thought there show was good, I just hope they get their shit together.
